Clueless - Jane Austen with an 80s twist
So I was born in 2003, but I don't know why but I feel like I don't belong to my generation. Like, I'm a sucker for all the 70s/80s/90s movies, tv shows, music, etc. For example, most of my friends didn't even hear about some classics like Shakespeare in love or The Breakfast Club, which makes me want to slap them across their face. One of those movies is Clueless, the classic clueless. I may have watched it at LEAST 5 times in a row. It was kind of ahead of its time, and it's a movie that all the 90s kids will always have in their hearts. Here's everything you need to know.
Basic Info:
Duration: 97 minutes (1 hour and 37 minutes)
Director: Amy Heckerling
Production: Paramount Pictures
Cast: Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, and the GORGEOUS Paul Rudd,
(Clueless it's currently streaming on Netflix Lat.)
Plot:
A rich high school girl tries to boost a new pupils' popularity but reckons without affairs of the heart getting in the way.
Opinion:
The last couple of months I started to watch a lot of movies from the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and two weeks ago I came across this movie, Clueless. I did hear about it before, but I never planned on watching it. I totally regret it. It's pretty rough at the beginning though, barely understanding a thing, you're clueless! (i had to do it sorry). But then you start to understand what it's going on with the characters and everything, which it's pretty cool.
The storyline it's awesome. The blonde girl who overcomes herself in a world where no one understands her, so she has to understand herself to show the world who she really is. We can also see this in other movies such as Legally Blonde or The Devil Wears Prada, which in my opinion they were all based on this. At first, you think the story it's going one way, then something happens, and it made a completely 360° turn, changing everything you've been watching. I think they did a really good job with the plot and the way the characters are.
The cast must be the best thing of all, Alicia Silverstone and Paul Rudd in the same movie? Literally a dream. With all the Friend buzz in the media, they had to do something to bring attention to the movie, which I think it's awesome. Friends completely ruled the 90s, leaving a little space for the Film industry to shine. And I think this was one of the movies that were able to transcend through the decades. Plus, this movie was the one which gave Paul Rudd his jump to Hollywood, of course later appearing on Friends as a regular, but this was IT. One sad thing it's that like, he was the only one who like, it's still famous lol. But that's another topic. Nevermind.
Also, that really surprised me it's that it's based on a Jane Austen book, Emma. That fascinates me actually, how a novel from literally the 1800s can become a complete success over a century after. I didn't have the opportunity to read the book, but from some reviews, they say it's pretty good.
But we gotta talk about the gay character. It's the best of it all. I love how she doesn't realize he's gay. I deadass saw him for the first time entering the classroom and I was like. Oh yeah, he's one of my people. But then he goes to Cher house and I was like, Oh maybe no, but when he realizes what's going on and leaves. I was like, completely dead. He must be one of the best characters in the whole movie.
One thing it's that I didn't quite like Tai improvement throughout the movie. It seemed really forced for her. Tai was just a normal girl, and she never wanted to be someone like Cher. She (Cher) forced Tai to become a person that everyone would see as popular. But I think it's also good to show this because it teaches us that we don't have to be like everybody else says we have to be, we just have to be ourselves if we don't wanna turn out to be any of those characters.
But besides that, it was preeeetty great. That plot twist at the end was everything, even though the final scene wasn't quite what I would've liked, it filled my expectations. Completely recommended, even more if you're a 90s kid and didn't watch the movie before. What are you waiting for?
